Text: Romans 6:3–5
Title: "Our Death with Jesus"

This Lord's Day we will begin looking at Paul's more detailed answer to a common objection raised against the good news of God's grace. The accusation is that the apostle's understanding of grace leads to sinful living. Worse still, the accusation had been leveled that Paul encouraged sinful living so as to magnify the grace of God.

Paul's short answer was that such a suggestion is unthinkable. But Paul's more detailed answer shows that it is more than unthinkable: it is impossible. A death has occurred in the life of the Christian, a death in the likeness of Christ's own death, that has forever changed the Christian's relationship to sin. That death guarantees a new life.

Morning and evening, this Lord's Day, we will consider these tremendous truths.

Text: Romans 5:15-19
Title: "Glorious Contrasts"

Adam is called a type of Christ in Romans 5:14. The similarity exists in the ideas of representation and imputation. Adam and Jesus both represented a people, and, in both cases, what they accomplished was shared in by all whom they represented.

In verses 15-19 the comparison continues, but now in the way of contrasts. Paul not only points out the likenesses between Adam and Christ, he points out the glorious differences.

This Lord's Day we will consider those differences, and we will rejoice in what Christ has accomplished for His people.

Title: "What Adam's Failure Meant for Mankind"

Why is the world in its present condition? How do we explain the evil that is in the world, and the fact that death is the universal experience of mankind? Where did all of this have its beginning, and what is the solution?

Last week we said that the entire history of the human race can be explained by two men. The first man is Adam. The last man is the Lord Jesus Christ. One man brought ruin to all those whom he represented. The last man brings salvation to all those whom He came into the world as their champion.

This Lord's Day we will consider the first man, what the Bible says about his failure, and what that failure meant for the world.

Text: Romans 5:6–11
"Secure in God's Love"

Paul has declared, explained, and celebrated the wonder of the freeness of salvation. He also glories in the security of it. What we will be reminded of this Lord's Day is that God's love is the ultimate explanation for the accomplishment and the finality of His saving work in our lives. We will also see that an accurate view of the Christian's position prior to salvation (Romans 1–3) is necessary for us to understand the true character of God's gracious love.

Title: “The Joy of Peace With God”

The knowledge of salvation’s security allows for the celebration of salvation’s promises. Justification by faith, and peace with God, provides the believer a unique joy that is present, whether in considering future glory or the many trials that belong to this age. That joy will be the focus of our study this Lord’s Day.

Text: Romans 5:1–2
Title: "The Certainty of Salvation"

Having established that salvation is by grace alone, and that justification is by faith, Paul now turns to an enormous result of that justification.

For four chapters (Rom 5–8) Paul unfolds the beauty of the unassailable nature of the salvation God has given. He demonstrates that salvation is not only free, it is final, and it results in a hope that will not be disappointed.

This Lord's Day we will examine the first two verses of Romans chapter 5, and we will see that justification results in peace with God.
