A Guide to Preparing for Worship Today

At 10:30am this morning we will live-stream a sermon by Pastor Caldwell. For this service we will not have songs/scripture/prayer like we normally do, but we will include that in the coming weeks. What can you do with your families this morning to prepare for hearing the word? A few thoughts:

1. Remind yourself and your families that there is nothing we can do to summon God to worship. We don’t create worship, we respond to what we’ve received in Jesus Christ—eternal life. And that gift continues to be the basis upon which we come to worship God. So whether we congregate as one group, or if we are forced to meet privately in our homes, we can still gather as God's people, worshiping as a response to God’s gift of himself, and chiefly through his Word, an idea that reverberates throughout the Bible. Indeed, true worship is always a response to God’s Word.

2. With that in mind, consider reading through Romans 6 to prepare your heart to hear an exposition on 6:15–16. And consider praying for Pastor Caldwell as he prepares to preach.

3. Consider leading your family through a worship outline much like what we do on Sundays. I'm adding to this post the one we originally planned for today. Look it over, and consider reading the texts and singing the songs with your families before and after the sermon.

4. For worship music, you can find arrangements to all of our songs for this service at this link: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0OOr1N6ot2IyEFVLDxN8ay…

5. For worship through giving, consider going to www.foundersbaptist.org/give as an alternative. We are likely in a situation where we will not meet for a few weeks, and so using this resource is vital for pastoral and staff support.

There is nothing more foundational to our relationship with God and to our lives as Christians than worshiping together. May it be that we do not neglect it, even in such troubling times as these.
