Preparing for Worship: December 15, 2019

Text: Romans 3:25
Title: "By His Blood"

Last Sunday evening we began answering three questions regarding the propitiation mentioned in Romans 3:25: What is it? How was it accomplished? How is it applied? We first considered "What is it?” last week. This Lord's Day we will see what our text teaches about its accomplishment and application. We will focus on the death of Christ and how His death fulfills the Old Testament witness (3:21) to God's saving work.

Songs we will sing this week include the following, provided in a Spotify playlist here or a Youtube playlist here:

  1. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
  2. What Child is This

Text: Romans 3:24
Title: "Jesus Our Redeemer"

This Lord's Day we will consider one of the most beautiful words in all of Scripture. It is the word redemption. It is a word that speaks of deliverance. It is a word that reminds us that our salvation required a payment. While salvation is a free gift to the believing sinner, it was not without cost. This Lord's Day we will be reminded of that great cost, and of why we sing the praises of Jesus our redeemer.

Songs we will sing this week include the following, provided in a Spotify playlist here or a Youtube playlist here:

  1. Praise to the Lord
  2. A Day of Glory
  3. O Lord, My Rock and My Redeemer
  4. I Will Glory in My Redeemer
  5. Blessed Are All
  6. None But Thee
  7. Ancient of Days
  8. The Deep, Deep Love of Jesus

Preparing for Worship: November 24, 2019

The people of Israel would have likely sung Psalm 127 on their pilgrimage to Jerusalem for a religious holiday. It serves as a way to realign their perspective as they prepare their hearts to worship God. As we head into our own holiday season, we need to allow the principles in this psalm to realign our own perspective regarding our pursuits, and help us remember the source of all the blessings we receive. In Psalm 127, the psalmist gives us two contrasting truths that establish God’s sovereignty in man’s pursuits:

  1. The vanity of striving apart from God (vv. 1–2)
  2. The blessing of rewards provided by God (vv. 3–5)

Songs we will sing this week include the following, provided in a Spotify playlist here, or a YouTube playlist here

  1. All Creatures of Our God and King
  2. Jesus! What a Friend for Sinners
  3. How Deep the Father's Love for Us
  4. Jesus, Thank You
  5. The Goodness of Jesus

Text: Romans 3:19–20
Title: The Way to the Righteousness God Will Receive

How can one stand before the holiness of God, perfectly accepted? The answer to that question is given in our verses this Lord’s Day. Ignorant of the righteousness of God, sinful men attempt to establish their own. That kind of righteousness will forever be unacceptable to God. There is a righteousness, however, that is freely given by God. It is freely given, perfectly acceptable to God, and in complete accordance with God’s justice. How that righteousness is offered and received will be our focus this Sunday.

Songs we will sing this week include the following, provided in a Spotify playlist here:

  1. Our Great God
  2. Raised to Life
  3. Jesus is Better
  4. O Lord, My Rock and My Redeemer
  5. When I Survey
  6. Jesus! What a Friend for Sinners
  7. He Who is Mighty
  8. Lord of Lords
  9. Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery

Text: 1 Timothy 6:3–10
Title: “The Distinctiveness of a Man of God”

When Paul refers to Timothy as a man of God, he does so in contrast to another kind of man. False teachers are a very real danger to the church, and Paul says we can recognize them by their character. This Lord’s Day, we will listen to what Paul tells us about false teachers, learn what characterizes a man of God in contrast, and be exhorted to pursue that distinctive pathway by which God will be glorified in His people.

Songs we will sing this week include the following, provided in a Spotify playlist here or a Youtube playlist here:

  1. All Creatures of Our God and King
  2. Man of Sorrows
  3. Blessed Are All
  4. We Sing as One
  5. Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery
  6. There is a Fountain
  7. Here is Love
  8. Ancient of Days
  9. I Will Glory in My Redeemer
